Hello Psi Chi Members!
Welcome back for the Spring 2012 semester! We hope you have had a good first week of classes and are settling in nicely with your new schedules. We wanted to let you all know that our weekly meetings for this semester will be Wednesdays at 12p.m. in HUM04. We encourage you all to try and attend - we appreciate your thoughts, opinions, and concerns and would love to meet with you in person about them! We are also accepting interests in E-board positions, as several of our officers will be graduating in May. If you are interested in President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Public Relations positions do not be afraid to contact us about it! We will also be communicating frequently with you all via email regarding stoles for graduation. Keep your eyes peeled for our emails and potential events hosted by Psi Chi throughout the semester!

Hello Psi Chi Members!
I hope you are all having a fantastic semester and are surviving midterms! I wanted to let you know of some exciting upcoming events that you should all be aware of and try your best to attend...

Wednesday October 19th - Graduate School Panel, 3-4p.m. in SU 62/63. Come and join your psychology professors as they discuss the various psychology graduate programs offered right here at SUNY New Paltz! Light refreshments will be served.

Wednesday November 2nd - Graduate School Q&A Program, 3-4p.m. in SU 62/63. A panel of psychology professors as well as current graduate students from our psychology graduate programs will be on-hand to answer any and all questions and concerns related to the graduate school process in general; admissions process, GRE testing, interviewing, etc. It is an open Q&A so come on over and bring your questions! Light refreshments will be served.

Wednesday November 30th - Fall 2011 Induction Ceremony, 7-8p.m. in CSB Faculty Lounge. We will induct our new members for the Fall 2011 semester into the Psi Chi chapter here at SUNY New Paltz. It is a casual ceremony, so bring a friend and come support your incoming Psi Chi peers for a night of honor (and pizza!).

The aforementioned are just a few of what we have in the works for this semester. Please check back soon for updates on new events and feel free to join us at our weekly meetings Mondays at 12 p.m. in HUM04. Enjoy!!!

Psi Chi Members,

It has been a busy semester!

In this past semester we:

Attended a conference on Autism

Volunteered at a Dulathon for Cystic Fibrosis

and participated in many other events!

Congratulations to those of you who are graduating this Friday 5/20 and Sunday 5/22!

Also, Congrats to those who were inducted this past Sunday May 15th!

New members of the E-board for the 2011-2012 academic year are:

And goodbye and goodluck to graduating e-board members:

Brenna Freary, Nichole Mueller, and Josh Dorsi. You will go on to do great things!

Ashley Stauffer will also be resigning from her position as Public Relations Officer to go on to internship in the second year of her Masters program at SUNY New Paltz.

There will be a general meeting at the beginning of the Fall 2011 semester to search for individuals to fill the Treasurer and Public Relations positions.

Fall Induction Ceremony

Psi Chi members: Fall induction ceremony is THIS COMING MONDAY 12/13! If you plan on attending please RSVP ASAP if you have not already done so! (you can RSVP by replying to stauff02@newpaltz.edu subject: fall induction) This is an event held to honor those students who have been accepted into Psi Chi the fall 2010 semester. There will be food and refreshments, and good people around to celebrate your acceptance into the honors society. Again, the ceremony is Monday the 13th at 6:30pm in SU 62/63(this is on the bottom floor of the atrium by the bookstore and pool tables) Hope to see you all there, and Happy last week of classes!!

SUNY student receives Psi Chi Regional Award

"Leigh A. Rokitowski, a student in the MA in Psychology program at SUNY New Paltz, was recently recognized with a Psi Chi Regional Research Award for the poster she presented at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association in New York City. The poster, which she co-authored with study abroad student Elena Gonzalez-Sanzo of Spain, was entitled "Gender, Nonverbal Behavior and Perceptions of Applicant Personality During the Employment Interview". Congratulations Leigh and Elena!"

on another note: Psi Chi would like to thank everyone who participated in the mid-hudson psychology conference last saturday. We are glad to say that the conference was a success!

Mid-Hudson Psychology Conference

In April SUNY New Paltz is once again hosting the 4th annual Mid-Hudson Psychology Conference. This conference is dedicated to STUDENT (undergraduate and graduate) work.

What you can submit:
Completed or in-progress scientific or theoretical work
ex) a paper for a seminar class, or research done with a professor.

Presentations can be given in either Oral or Poster format

The deadline to submit your work is March 31st.

Hello Psi Chi,

Thanks to those who attended Professor Grossi's talk yesterday evening.

We expect to continue the Learn a bit Eat a bit series in March With Professor Tillman, for those who are interested.

Get ready for Open Mic with Psi Chi and RPM Tuesday March 30th at Cabaloosa's!!

The newly established Art Therapy club is planning to invite art therapist Ed Regensburg to speak on campus. Date&time: TBA

We are currently looking for new E-board members for the Fall 2010 semester.

New officers will be inducted in May at the induction ceremony.

Learn a Bit, Eat a Bit Series

Hello Psi Chi,

I am glad to now be introducing our new "Learn a bit, Eat a bit" series.

This is a way for students to get to know their professors more intimately than they can in a classroom setting.

Don't be scared. I know psychology professors can be intimidating, but when they are in a smaller setting, talking about the things that really interest them, they're not so bad.

Dr. Grossi will be our first lecturer, and she will be speaking about her research on bilingualism.

This talk is open for Subject Pool credit. 20 seats are available, so if you are interested be sure to hurry and sign up!

Time and Location: Wednesday, February 10, 2010. 5:30PM - 6:30PM. SUB 416

Directions: Go to the fourth floor, exit the elevators turn right and follow hallway to the corner room. Please sign the attendance sheets at the end of this event to receive credits.

Refreshments will be served!

The different internship sites will be at the open house as well as current students in the practicum course, and Candice Panella, the new practicum professor.

Grad School Panel

Psi Chi is holding a grad school talk THURSDAY OCTOBER 8TH from 6:15-7:15pm.

Professors like KatySue Tillman, Greta Winograd, Navin Viswanathan, and Corwin Senko will be there, as well as Beth King from the career resource center, and graduate students from the psychology department to answer all your questions and concerns about everything to do with grad school, and the grad school process.

We will also be handing out "Glenn Geher's advice for grad school."

There will also be PIZZA!

If you are freaking out about grad school, or if you are curious about the whole process, different degree choices and career paths, the GRE's, or just want some pizza come to the panel!

The location for the panel is not yet set, but once I find it out i will post it.

Platekill Day Sunday Sept. 20th

Sunday Sept. 20th Psi Chi members will be volunteering at Platekill Day with Glenn Geher from 9am-5pm. We will be face-painting and helping out with the library stand at the event. I have recruited 7 volunteers, but i need 3 more. If anyone is interested please contact me or Glenn.

Psi Chi t-shirts and membership fee

If you ordered a Psi Chi T-shirt last semester and never got it stop by JFT 314, all the shirts should be there.

There has been an increase in the lifetime membership fee. The one-time membership fee is now $60 ($45 national fee plus $15 chapter fee). Don't let it discourage you!
